Knockmitten United was formed in 2008 with the amalgamation of local clubs Hillview United and Monksfield United. Adopting the blue and white colours, the club has gone from strength to strength over the past 10 years. The club has developed a reputation over the years as a community club with an atmosphere made for players to develop. Many teams still have the managers they first started off with and many players have never left the club and this is down to the way the club is run, both on and off the pitch. The primary aim of our club is to develop our players into technically gifted players who can play at the highest level. Over the years, many players that have come out of our academy have moved on to some of the elite schoolboy teams in Dublin and have been called up to regional squads. Former players such as Colin Ribey and Reece O'Brien have both been called up the DDSL and SDFL squads respectively, having come out of our academy and spending 4 years with KUFC while former SDFL squad member Lenin O'Keefe spent 3 years with the club, joining us shortly after the 2004 team was taken out of the KUFC Academy. However, while our primary aim is to see our players and coaches develop, we do strive to be a competitve club. While our history doesn't even go back ten years, our club has seen many teams achieve honours while players have also been recognized individually. In 2016, our u12s SDFL side achieved an unbeaten league season while winning the Stanno Cup, our u12s DDSL side reached the Farry Cup Final while our u17s reached the SDFL Cup Final. Prior to then, our 2003 group has won several league titles, our 2004 group had reached SDFL Division 4 final, Des Connollys 1998 group won the John Giles cup while John Blairs 1997 group won several honours up until they reached senior level, with some of that side playing in the Senior side which won the Premier Sunday Division 1 in 2015. In the 2016/2017 season, both our u13s (DDSL) reached cup semi - finals, our u16s won their mini league while our under 14's reached the last 16 of the All Ireland, being knocked out by eventual winners St Kevins Boys. Several players have received individual recognition over the past few years. In 2017, Kian Ekhuemelo, Kyle Duff and Steven Akamelu represented the SDFL in the Kennedy Cup. Jack Byrne was called up to the SDFL u12s squad, joining his team mate and SDFL regular Zach Nugent while 2 years ago, our former under 13s goalkeeper Darragh Davey - Kelly was invited to trials with Reading FC. Kyle Duff signed for U.C.D While the club has gone from strength to strength, we have not forgotten what makes us strong: Our community. The club has a great relationship with the local community. Based in the heart of Knockmitten, our pitches attract many spectators from around the area. The community is what keeps us going and it's why we value it as much as we do. The positive atmosphere surrounding the club is helped by this and it's the atmosphere that keeps many coaches and players at the club. We have nearly 20 players in the club who have only worn the blue and white of KUFC while many coaches and members who were at the club when it first started have never left. Our club will continue to grow stronger every year and while our history is a short one, it's one we are proud of and will continue to add to. |
